China’s construction machinery industry recorded strong growth in the first five months of 2026, with both excavators and loaders posting double-digit increases in domestic and export sales, according to the latest data from the China Construction Machinery Association.
From January to May 2026, total excavator sales reached 126,875 units, a 24.7% year-on-year increase. Loaders also performed robustly, with 67,162 units sold, up 27.3% from the same period last year. Both product categories saw solid growth in domestic sales and export volumes alike.
Electrification continued to gain momentum. Electric loaders were a standout performer, with cumulative sales of 20,819 units in the January-May period — a remarkable 90.9% year-on-year surge. Perhaps more telling, exports of electric loaders reached 1,232 units, soaring 208% compared to the previous year, signaling growing overseas acceptance of China-made electric machinery.
The export momentum was not limited to electric models. Market analysts note that Chinese equipment manufacturers have built a more balanced global footprint, with deepening market penetration across Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Monthly export data from April showed that Africa and Latin America remained the fastest-growing destinations, underscoring the shift of demand from mature Western markets to developing regions where infrastructure investment continues to expand.
Looking ahead, the China Construction Machinery Association expects full‑year industry revenue and export figures to maintain stable growth, with new energy machinery penetration set to rise further. Electric excavators, while still a smaller segment, are projected to expand in both volume and application range as battery technology and charging infrastructure continue to improve.
For buyers and operators, the message is clear: the shift toward electric and high-efficiency machinery is not a distant trend — it is already reshaping procurement decisions around the world.
